Debiopharm in-licenses promising biologics and small molecule drug candidates and develops its products for global registration and maximum commercial potential for out-licensing to pharmaceutical partners for sales and marketing.

Milestones

The Company has successfully developed three products with global combined sales in excess of $2.6 billion in 2008.  These products include Eloxatin® for the treatment of colorectal cancer, Decapeptyl® and Trelstar® for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer, endometriosis, precocious puberty, in-vitro fertilisation programs, uterine fibroids.

Management

    

Kamel Besseghir

Chief Executive Officer, Debiopharm S.A

Dr. Besseghir received his medical degree in 1973 in Oran, Algeria. Previous job experiences include Assistant-Professor and Private-Docent at the University of Lausanne; Advisor to the WHO in the field of drug selection and use; International Manager for Drug Safety at Serono, where he organised international corporate pharmacovigilance; and work in developing countries on programs funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation to improve drug use. He joined Debiopharm S.A in 1995.

 

    

Andres McAllister

Chief Scientific Officer, Debiopharm S.A

Dr. McAllister graduated from Medical School in 1985 in Bogota, Colombia and in 1991, obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Virology from the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France. Previous job experiences include the Pasteur Institute in Paris; the University of California San Francisco; the Centre d’Immunologie Pierre Fabre in France; and Director of R&D at Immune Design Molecules, a biotechnology company specialised in the immunotherapy of cancer. He joined Debiopharm S.A. in 2004.

 

    

Jean-Maurice Dumont

Vice President, Search & Evaluation, Debiopharm S.A.

Dr. Dumont received his Diploma of Pharmacy from the University of Lyon, France in 1978. He then obtained his certificate of specialisation in Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics, as well as his certificate of specialisation in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Lyon, France. Previous job experiences include Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department of the University of Lyon; Pharmacologist in the Research Department of Zyma SA (Novartis), Nyon, Switzerland where he headed the Hepatic and Gastro-enterology and then Biochemistry-Dermatology units; and Manager in Socar (Société pour la recherche en cardiologie) Research SA, Nyon, Switzerland, where he was responsible for the management of Multi-Centre Clinical trials in the field of Cardiology. He joined Debiopharm S.A. in 1998.

 

    

Houssam Ibrahim

Vice President Pharmaceutical Development, Debiopharm S.A.

Dr. Ibrahim received his Diploma of Pharmacy from the faculty of Sciences of the University of Geneva, Switzerland in 1983, and in 1989, obtained his Ph.D. in Sciences from the ‘Laboratoire de Pharmacie Galénique’, University of Geneva. Dr. Ibrahim has acquired international experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including quality assurance, regulatory affairs, pharmaceutical sciences and GMP productions for clinical trial materials and commercial products. Previous job experiences include work in Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at Serono. He joined Debiopharm S.A. in 1992.

 

    

Hervé Porchet

Vice President Medical Affairs, Debiopharm S.A.

Dr. Porchet received his Federal Diploma of Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lausanne in 1978 and his Medical Degree in Clinical Pharmacology from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Bern in 1981. Previous job experiences include clinical experience in Internal Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology at the Universities of Bern, Geneva and the University of California San Francisco; he was also Corporate Director of Clinical Pharmacology at Serono. He joined Debiopharm S.A. in 1995.

 

  

Oengus Ramsay

Director Finance & Administration, Debiopharm S. A

Mr. Ramsay graduated from the University College of Dublin, Ireland in 1988 and later completed an MBA at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France in 1995. Mr. Ramsay started his career as an auditor with Ernst & Young in Basel, Switzerland and subsequently gained extensive international experience in Switzerland, France and Germany in various finance and administration management positions. Since 1997, he held the position of Finance and Administration Director at Danka Suisse S.A., Lausanne. He joined Debiopharm S.A. in 2007.

Rudolf Thomas Bär

Vice President, Business Development & Licensing, Debiopharm S.A. 

Mr. Bär graduated in Economy with a minor in Biology from the University of Bern, Switzerland in 1994. Mr. Bär has acquired a broad commercial experience in multinational and national pharmaceutical industries in various positions in Marketing, Sales and General Management for Novartis Consumer Health, Vifor Pharma and Teva Pharmaceuticals. He followed executive management programs at IMD, University of California at Berkeley and Nanyang Technology University in Singapore. He joined Debiopharm S.A. in 2008.

Christine Deuschel

Vice President, Portfolio & Project Management, Debiopharm S.A.

Dr. Deuschel has been trained as chemist and received her PhD in Science from the faculty of Sciences of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland in 1987. She later completed an MBA from HEC and EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2007. Previous job experiences include post-graduate research at the University of California at Berkeley, Faculty member of the University of Bern, Switzerland. Dr. Deuschel has also been Chief Operating Officer, and then Chief Executive Officer at Athelas SA Geneva, Switzerland, a start up company active in the fields of antibacterial drug-discovery, and Chief Scientific Officer at Anteis SA Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Deuschel joined Debiopharm S.A. in 1995.
