Debio 9902 SR, Mimopezil,  is a long acting acetylcholinesterase inhibitor developed for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. Based on encouraging clinical results obtained with the oral formulation as well as good pharmacokinetics and safety profiles obtained in healthy volunteers with the long acting formulation, Debiopharm is currently developing a sustained release formulation of Debio 9902 by using its proprietary PLGA technology platform. The aim is to increase safety, compliance and efficacy. Debiopharm received a recommendation from the DSMB to continue its Phase IIb BRAINz study with Debio 9902 SR.

In October 2008, Debiopharm initiated a clinical phase I bioequivalence bridging study with Debio 9902, in the U.S. under IND (Investigational New Drug). The aim of the study is to compare the tolerability, safety and pharmacokinetic profiles of a single dose of two different Debio 9902 tablet formulations in healthy elderly subjects.
