Commitment

Social corporate responsibility is an important part of our mission. To contribute to the health of our planet, we continually review and improve our efforts to reduce the burden on our environment. It is our wish that we build our scientific and business decisions on actions geared towards sustainable development, including social, environmental and economical issues.

SOCIAL

  • Employment
Debiopharm is an equal opportunity employer and recruitment is based on competence. Our employees represent a wide cross-section of talents, experiences and backgrounds. Throughout the group we have over 18 different nationalities with 58% of women and 42% of men. We are committed to fighting gender, race, religion, and sexual discrimination and abide by the human rights principles, as well as national laws regarding employment.

Our collaborators are offered fair remuneration, adequate social coverage, flexible working hours and human employment conditions.

  • Health & Security
Risk prevention and the health of our employees are important to us. Procedures, adequate equipment and specific measures to protect them have been implemented and adapted to each professional specificity and environment.

All our sites are equipped with defibrillators in the event of heart failure and some employees have been trained to use this equipment.

ENVIRONMENT

In our efforts to preserve the environment, our buildings and manufacturing facilities are built according to ecological and security standards. At our Lausanne site we don’t revert to air-conditioning. Instead, the building is equipped with gas heating and sophisticated temperature control systems, which function on a balance between warm and cold air. Without fuel consumption, we have reduced costs as well as pollution. Our buildings are also smoke free.

ECONOMY

Debiopharm contributes to innovation and economic development on local and international levels, through:

  • Awards
Debiopharm Group Awards that are aimed at recognising, encouraging and promoting scientific excellence both locally and internationally.

  • Sponsorships
Genilem: via sponsorships, we offer innovative young companies in Western Switzerland our guidance, expertise, training, and contacts.

  • Investments
Polytech Ventures: a seed fund offering early stage investments in technology companies in Western Switzerland, in all technology sectors excluding therapeutic drug development.

HUMANITARIAN ACTIONS

Debiopharm Group is devoted to giving back to community by promoting health and education.

  • “Kantuta Association”, Sucre, Bolivia
“Kantuta Association”, named after Bolivia's national flower, was founded in 2002 by an employee of Debiopharm.

The association provides basic care and schooling to deprived children of the streets of Sucre in Bolivia. Giving them an education and building their self-esteem helps them grow into independent and responsible adults and prepares them for the professional world.

Debiopharm Group offers an on-going financial support to the "Kantuta Association” which has contributed to the building of new facilities that can care for 65 children between the ages of 6 and 16. Our support has enabled the construction and staffing of a bakery that provides for the centre as well as other bakeries in Sucre; the construction of equipment for four workshops (mechanics, sewing, information technologies, and other activities); a vegetable patch to feed the children of the centre with the possibility of selling any excess production at the local market; and finally handmade crafts (cards, nativity crèches).

As well as the financial support, Debiopharm Group and its employees also donates clothes, toys, games, bicycles, computers and other useful items to “Kantuta Association”.

  • "Les Pinceaux Magiques”, Lausanne and Sion, Switzerland
"Les pinceaux magiques" (magic paintbrushes) was founded in 1997 by Thérèse Pralong and supported by doctors Maja Nenadov Beck from the CHUV hospital in Lausanne and Henri Küchler from the Sion hospital.

The philosophy behind "Les pinceaux magiques" is to share memorable colourful moments with young patients via silk painting. This activity requires little effort as the colours mix easily on silk, like magic. Different techniques are available to ensure that even the smallest children can create colourful items like scarves, ties, hats.

Thérèse Pralong and her collegues visit patients at the CHUV and Sion hospitals, as well as at their homes to share many happy moments with them.

Debiopharm Group supports “Les Pinceaux Magiques” with money raised during various company events.
